Fick told me that they called Rex "Van Flak" because every time he came back
from a mission he would claim that the enemy "Flak" was so thick you could get
out of your aircraft and walk on it.
Kerm Keeley said, "I swear the wheels didn't hit the wells and he was yelling
Flak!"
